Statement on the Planned Anti-2SLGBTQI+ Protest in Mississauga

I have said on numerous occasions that hate has no place in our city – this extends to outside its borders also. I join Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie in condemning the planned anti-2SLGBTQI+ protest at Celebration Square this weekend.

Members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community have the right to live free of hatred and discrimination and I stand firmly against any demonstration that strays away from our values of inclusivity, respect, tolerance and peace.

Celebration Square is a popular site for tourists and locals to gather with friends and family. It is extremely disheartening that rather than people comfortably enjoying the space on a summer weekend, the space will be occupied by hate instead.

We must all continue to do our part to call out such hatred in all its forms and foster an environment that is safe for all.

Sincerely,
